ACH/NACHA Email Scam Alert: November 23, 2011

Over the past two days, several customers have received emails that appear to come from ACH or NACHA related email addresses.  The emails state the recipient has had an ACH or NACHA transaction denied (usually a deposit or transfer) and requests the recipient to click a provided URL for more information or to rectify the issue.  The emails are FAKE.  Neither ACH nor NACHA will email a bank customer about a transaction.  Neither should have access to a customer’s email address, and if an actual transaction was denied, they would contact the originating institution, not the customer.  The links are either PHISHING for a customer’s account information, or the websites they point to contain malware intended to compromise the recipient’s computer.  If there are any attachments, they also likely will contain malware designed to compromise the recipient’s computer.

If you receive one of these email, PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ANY URLs OR OPEN ATTACHMENTS.  Also do not give out any personal or account information. Delete the email.

Please remember, Independent Farmers Bank will NEVER ask you for personal or account information via an email.  If you give out any personal or account information via an email, or a link contained in an email, please contact Independent Farmers Bank and report the incident.  We will respond accordingly.

Also, all computers accessing the Internet should have anti-virus and anti-malware software installed.  Be sure to keep the definitions up to date, and regularly scan the computer.

Finally, please review our Internet Banking Security Standards and Requirements at http://www.farmbank.net/ifb_ib.html for details on how to keep your computer safe on the Internet.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Independent Farmers Bank at 1-816-449-2182.
